No thanks, I'm good.So the king to all geeks (well, most. Okay, some…), Joss Whedon has come out an insisted he was emphatically ‘done’ with Marvel.
Are you wondering just what in the deal is with all of that? Let me tell you.
Joss Whedon has been a little quiet on the Marvel front as of late, well ever since the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron in fact. A lot of people believe that’s because the movie wasn’t as critically acclaimed as he (and we) may have wanted it to be. A lot of people believe that it was actually down to the fight Joss Whedon had with the studio over the movie.
Who knows.
The one thing we do know, however, is the fact that Joss Whedon no longer works on Marvel movies and yesterday, there seemed to be a big fuss about it on the interwebs. I have founded an interview during an Oxford Union Q&A session which sums it all up nicely.
“I sort of had my finger in all of the films in the second phase”, Joss Whedon said, “but then I just had to concentrate only on Ultron, and sort of know when it was done I was just going to stop. So I made a completely clean break – not because we had a falling out – just because I was like ‘I can’t…’ If I was still there going ‘well, here are my thoughts on this film’.”
“I’d be there every day. I wouldn’t do anything else because there are a lot of films, and it is a lot of fun. It’s very seductive. When you can put your little fairy dust on things and just improve them slightly, and they actually listen to you…”
Also in the interview he did hasten to add that the split was on ‘good terms’, but whether that was the party line or truth, I’ll leave it for you to decide.
Here’s that full interview:
TL;DR: On the face of it, this sounds a lot worse than is. The split was amicable and Whedon quit because he was too busy with all of the Marvel movies. Now go buy an awesome geek tee!
