This post is going to contain tonnes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoilers. If you haven’t seen it:
a) Are you a hermit?
b) Has someone SERIOUSLY let you down and won’t go to the cinema with you?
c) You might not want to read this spoilerific post.
Now let’s take a look at this Star Wars Episode VIII rumour…
SPOILERS…
SPOILERS..
SPOILERS.
SPOILERS
BOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!
After Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a lot of us didn’t want to believe the truth that was staring us in the face. Han Solo died.
He’s a lot of people’s favourite character and nobody wanted him to die. So people now want to believe he survive. I mean, if anybody could it’d be that scruffy Nerf-herded, right? Right?
So a lot of people are clinging onto hope that he actually survived his ordeal with Kylo Ren and will come back to fight the good fight with the rest of the Rebel Scum. I hope more than anything that they’ll find a way, but in reality that’s NOT going to happen.
Is it?
There have been a number of reports flying around regarding the casting for Star Wars Episode VIII, more interestingly is the blurb stating that Harrison Ford will return to reprise his role as Han Solo.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK…???
The casting report comes from MovieCastingCall which states:
Returning to reprise their roles in “Star Wars: Episode VIII” is Golden Globe Award nominee Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron; Daisy Ridley as Rey; Black Reel awards nominee John Bodega as Finn; Academy Award nominee Harrison Ford as Han Solo […]
Whoa there. I know it’s just a line in a casting call, but still: this is interesting news. WE’RE GETTING HAN SOLO BACK!!!
Or are we?
Do I think Han Solo will be in Star Wars Episode VIII? Yes. Do I think he’s dead and not coming back? Yes. Wait, what? Let me explain.
I think the next couple of movies will entail a number of flashback sequences. We need to know what happened to Luke’s Jedi training camp. We need to know who Snuke is. We need to know how Snuke seduced Ren to the darkside. We need to know who left Rey on that planet. Basically, there are a tonne of holes the narrative must fill somehow.
Flashback sequences seem like the logical choice.
And if you’re delving into the past, then you have a few formative Ren flashbacks, right? His father could very well be in them. Seems reasonable, no?
What I’m trying to say is: if Harrison Ford does return for Star Wars Episode VIII, it’ll be in flashback sequences.
What do you think?
