Bad news Star Wars fans, now we have to wait 7 months longer for the next installment of the sequel.
Goddammit!
So Disney have decided to shunt Star Wars Episode VIII from it’s original 26th May 2017 release to 15th December 2017 release. Disney also announced that the movie to take it’s memorial day weekend slot will be the new Pirates of the Caribbean.
Just fantastic *end sarcasm*.
To try to see it from the enemies point of you, I can see why Disney did it. Star Wars Episode VIII will earn them money whenever they release the movie, the ailing Pirates franchise needs all the help it can get with a prime time potential summer blockbuster slot.
However, all may not go as planned for Johnny Depp’s make-up laden pirate.
In an usually hilarious move, Fox responded to the date shift immediately by bumping their new Spider-Man movie to the save 26th May 2017 date, pitting it against the Pirates. Tired reboot or not, at least it’ll give me something to watch that weekend that isn’t pirate related and laden with release date change bitterness (I’m so not over this push back).
In doing this, Fox also bumped their reboot of Jumanji to December to try and compete with Star Wars…or to condemn the movie before it’s been release – I’ll let you be the judge of that.
