No thanks, I'm good. That’s right folks, the Spider-Man reboot has a new Aunt May!
I’ve been in love with Marisa Tomei for years. It was My Cousin Vinny that did it. It was the first movie I ever saw her in and she was fantastic – hence the old school picture of the talented lady at the top of the page. The movie was brilliant too and quickly became my go-to movie if I’m ever bored – and it still holds that questionable title to this day. As most will already know, Tomei won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the role in 1993.
And now, Variety are reporting that she’s been cast in a very iconic role indeed. May Parker AKA Aunt May in the new Spider-Man reboot. True story bro.
Tomei is the third actress to portray Peter Parker’s aunt in all of the Spider-Man movie franchises of latter years, behind Rosemary Harris and Sally Fields (who I thought did an excellent job in the latest Spider-Man movies).
With Tomei, the movie-makers are clearly indicating that they aim to take the latest Spider-Man reboot in a new direction, casting Tomei (who’s 50 – I wish I looked that good at that age) in a role, which has previously been filled by a more elderly lady.
Perhaps this variations will be a lot like The Ultimate Spider-Man Aunt May and Uncle Ben, who appeared (at least in the earlier books) to not be as elderly as previously portrayed. Or maybe they’re just going to use make-up to age the lady.
Either way, she’s got the job and I think she’s got the acting chops to pull anything off.
