Marvel Kills a Major Character: How it Should Have Gone Down

Marvelous 8 bit | Civil War 2 | Marvel Kill off a Character

Check out this totally awesome Marvelous 8-Bit Tee from Teepublic

In the current Civil War 2 storyline, Marvel kills a major character. I don’t necessarily disagree with what was done, I disagree with HOW it was done.

Hear me out.

A rather obvious announcement before we continue guys: there be spoilers below.

Marvel Kills a Major Character

The latest Marvel event – Civil War 2 – see’s heroes pitted against each other as an Inhuman by the name of Ulysses emerges with the power to see the future. One faction of the heroes – led by Captain Marvel – want to use Ulysses to help prevent events before they happen and the other side led by Tony Stark think that’s the wrong move to make.

In latest issue of the comic, Marvel kills a major character.

Civil War 2 | The Moment Bruce Banner Dies

That’s right, it’s Bruce Banner. They killed off Bruce Banner.

How? Hawkeye’s arrow. it went down like this: Ulysses saw The Hulk on a rampage, killing heroes. So Captain Marvel and her crew decided to stop it. And stop it they did. Without much of a second thought, Hawkeye put an arrow in his skull.

To kill off a major character like this has been done a million times before, but you can’t deny it adds a little shock value to the storyline. With Bruce Banner, I think they’ve chosen a great character to kill off. Banner is one of the origin Marvel characters, so it gives the death a certain amount of gravity, but at the same time we’re not really losing a hero or super-powered rampage machine at all. We still have the Amadeus Chou Hulk to name but one.

So I’m okay with the death of the character bit, but the way in which he died I’m not so sure about. I get that having Hawkeye do it adds an additional shock value; I mean he does just up and shoot him in the head with an arrow.

But I would’ve liked to see Logan do it. Or at least be involved in some way. I know what you’re thinking; “Logan is a killer, it would’ve been too obvious” but c’mon.

The Logan that exists now comes from the Old Man Logan universe. You know, the one where Bruce Banners’s Hulk and his sons kill Logan’s entire family just because Banner was a bit bored? How has Logan not gone for him already? After learning what the Hulk was going to do, why wouldn’t Logan be the first in line to end it? I mean it would make sense, would it not?

This would bring more focus on who exactly this Old Man Logan is and add a bit more depth to the story.

Okay, like I said, Hawkeye did it. I get why they had him do it and I get that it’ll add to the story. But I want to see Logan involved in the aftermath and have the writers at least bring it up. Logan could confront Hawkeye about it or even console him by giving him a picture of what the man did in the future.

Hell, I just want to see a little bit of continuity. Is that too much to ask?

What do you think?
