No thanks, I'm good.Game of Thrones news alert: according to Deadline, an end for series has been discussed by HBO President Michael Lombardo and although it’s bad news overall (because who wants this ride to end???) it’s a bit better than I dared hope for.
Plus, there may be even better news thrown into the mix too.
Find out more right here.
When asked, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have previously been quoted as saying that they envisioned the show running for 7 seasons, but Lombardo believes otherwise.
“Seven seasons and out was never the conversation,” he said, in a session yesterday at the TCA. “The question is how much beyond (seven seasons) it will go.”
So good news right? The president of HBO is wanting MORE, MORE, MORE Game of Thrones and why would he not? The show is consistently bringing in ratings.
Lombardo continued: “David and Dan are feeling there’s probably two more years after Season 6, that’s what we’re looking at right now. We hope that they would change their mind, but that’s how they are feeling now.”
So the HBO president here is saying that it’s actually the Showrunners who are putting a limit on how many seasons of the show there will be. I’m no master at maths or anything, but I make than 8 season. Not too shabby.
I would like to see as much Game of Thrones they can throw at me, but on the other hand, I don’t want them just to keep going for the sake of it. If they can’t make the quality shows we’ve become accustomed to, then they should just end it rather than dragging it out to earn an extra few bucks. In that sense, I think Lombardo is playing it right: he’s hoping for more, but he’s trusting the showrunners about the shelf life of the show.
In other Game of Thrones news, after the thorny subject of how long he show would last was put to bed, another topic was brought up.
The possibility of a prequel.
“We would be open to anything [Benioff and Weiss] want to do, there is enormous amount of storytelling in that world.”
But then he hastened to add:
“The focus is on figuring out the next few years of the show.”
