No thanks, I'm good. With season 6 of the hit George R.R. Martin show scheduled to hit the air this coming March, what about the future of the wildly popular Fantasy show?
Let’s take a look.
The forecast looks likely, with Deadline Hollywood are reporting that HBO are looking to pick up the show for a further two seasons.
Yes, you read that read that correctly. We’ll most likely be getting season 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones. Sound awesome? Yeah, it does.
The two season pick up is quite rare in the modern era of television. With so many shows not even getting the chance they deserve to earn the network a little money, a multi-season pick up is something left for only the shows the networks know with get them bang for their buck.
HBO showed faith in Game of Thrones last time around by renewing the show for seasons 5 and 6 and I highly doubt they’ll go against the grain this time either. In fact, HBO president Michael Lombardo is of the opinion the decision lies with the show creators, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, rather than the networ itself.
“David and Dan are feeling there’s probably two more years after Season 6, that’s what we’re looking at right now,” Lombardo said back in July. “We hope that they would change their mind, but that’s how they are feeling now.”
Let’s just hope they don’t change their minds.
HBO’s stance on this is not surprising, given the fact the show is still highly watched and is breaking a few viewing records along the way. As well as amassing critical acclaim.
In addition to breaking another ratings record 8.11 million Live + same day viewers for the Season 5 finale, the series also broke Emmy record for most wins in a single year, 12, including best drama series.
Now, it’s just a question of what the storyline’s for further seasons will potentially be. As most will already know, the book content pretty much ran out at the end of season 5. In fact the book used the very same Jon Snow lying in the snow cliffhanger the TV series did to finish with.
And as most will also know, the latest book George R.R. Martin promised us is not yet finished, according to the author.
Has George R.R. Martin given the show an outline of what he has decided is going to happen? or is this where the show writers take over and carve their own future for Westeros? I guess we’ll find out this March.
