That’s right folks: Donald Glover has officially landed a role in the highly anticipated Spider-Man Homecoming – but who will he play?
You might be wondering why people are making such a big deal of Donald Glover being cast in the forthcoming Spider-Man sequel and it’s a good question.
Basically, Glover and fans (mostly Community uber fans – like me) were petitioning for him to land a role as Spider-Man in the previous reboot of the movie because Marvel had been heavily promoting a different Spider-Man in their Ultimates comic books.
In Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, Peter Parker died in a story arc and a character called Miles Morales gained powers and took his place. Pretty much everyone wanted Glover to portray Morales, but Sony decided they wanted to go with Peter Parker (and understandably so) and so Andrew Garfield was cast.
Yesterday, it was officially announced that Glover had landed a role in the movie, but details of the role were masked in secrecy, leading everyone to speculate on exactly who the versatile actor/rapper will play.
Some believe he will play a villain or a minor part in the movie and name’s such as The Night Prowler, tech tycoon Max Modell and even Daily Bugle mainstay Robbie Robertson (which would be cool).
But I want him to portray Miles Morales. A Miles Morales not from this universe.
Let me run it by ya.
In the comic books, there were a number of crossover arcs between the main Marvel universe and the Ultimate Marvel universe, before the recent Secret Wars story arc which put both characters in the same universe for good.
I want a similar set up.
I want Spider-Man: Homecoming to be a simply story that builds up a big bad for a future movie. The big bad isn’t of this dimension, but he’s controlling things from the other side.
At the end of the movie, we see a beaten and bloodied Mile Morales (in a torn Spider-Man suit) fall into this dimension right in front of the Peter Parker Spider-Man. Then the big bad shows himself and sets up the next movie.
Yes, I’m suggesting that Donald Glover only has a cameo in the movie. Yes, I’m suggesting the movie building up to an epic sequel. Yes, I’m suggesting the sequel have two Spider-Men.
I want Donald Glover as the second Spider-Man.
