No thanks, I'm good. With Daredevil Season 1 ending, fans of the show are already casting their minds forward to Daredevil season 2 and all of the awesomeness it is inevitably going to bring.
After watching and re-watching the first season of the show, I’ve come up with 3 arcs/villains/happenings in the second season that could potentially spawn from the breadcrumbs left behind.
Wanna take the ride with me? (PS – THERE BE DAREDEVIL SEASON 1 SPOILERS BELOW!!!)
Daredevil isn’t like any other comic book based television, or should I say Netflix, show.
It isn’t bound by the legacy of the characters the show is trying to portray, like most other shows.
For example, how many of you were expecting Daredevil to come save Ben Ulrich right before the Kingpin strangled him to death?
I WAS.
Ben Ulrich is a MAJOR character in the Daredevil comic book and has been for many, many years. He’s a confidant and friend of Murdock who also knows his secret identity (he used his mad journalism skills to figure it out).
In season 1, they just killed him. No heroes send off, he just died quietly and alone at the hands of the man he hated.
And the bodies of major comic book characters kept on coming. The death of another major Daredevil villain the show didn’t really do justice – Leland Owlsley – is a prime example of that.
But I get it why they couldn’t being us the full-blown Owl.
In the comic books, Leland wasn’t exactly the type of villain you’d expect to be included in a gritty realistic interpretation of the Man Without Fear.
He did have mad financial skills, but he also experimented with serums and such to augment his body to take his “Own” moniker to the next level.
Since Kingpin killed him in the very last episode, it doesn’t seem likely we’re going to get The Owl character living up to his full potential at any point.
1. The Defenders
When the Daredevil show was first commissioned by Netflix over a year ago now, 3 other shows AND a mini-series entitled “Defenders” were also given the green light at the same.
The shows will be based on Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron First and combined with Daredevil, they’ll form up to make The Defenders mini-series.
In the comic books, The Defenders were a more powerful group which had many variations including Hulk, Silver Surfer and Doctor Strange, but in the Netflix series it seems it’s going to be more of a “on the streets” type of group which is essentially made up of the Heroes For Hire…AND their friend Daredevil.
The Jessica Jones series (entitle AKA Jessica Jones), starring the incredible Krysten Ritter, is already in production and Mike Colter has already been cast as Luke Cage and the show is currently getting ready for production – so the ball is very definitely moving on this one.
Getting to the point, I believe Daredevil season 2 will feature one or more crossovers from these characters in a very similar vein to the DC Arrow and Flash shows.
The character crossovers worked incredibly well for both series and I suspect Marvel and Netflix will look to capitalise on the concept – especially if plans are already in the works to bring all of The Defenders together for a mini-series.
2. Gladiator
So Daredevil’s costume designer in the TV show goes by the name Melvin Potter.
In the comic books, Melvin first appears as the villain Gladiator who later reforms, becomes a costume designer and a Daredevil supported.
I just wonder if that arc played out a little too soon in the TV show.
I was thinking maybe the show writers could go down the angle of having the Kingpin return in Daredevil Season 2.
He finds out about Melvin’s connection to Daredevil via his new suit and then, instead of killing Potter, he uses him to try to kill The Man Without Fear holding “Betty” to ransom.
It’s a decent concept, don’t you think?
Also, Melvin has already used The Gladiator’s signature weapon (the circular saw) when fighting Daredevil in season 1.
I think this definitely could happen in Daredevil Season 2 for sure.
3. Elektra
In season 1, Elektra was mentioned as ‘The Greek Girl’ in a college flashback scene in the latter episodes of the series.
After leaving THAT breadcrumb there’s no way in hell they’re NOT going to have Elektra in Daredevil Season 2 in some fashion.
Also it’s Elektra – this is a storyline they just HAVE to cover in Daredevil Season 2.
It’s too big NOT to.
How will they bring her in?
I’m Not sure.
Will they just have her in flashbacks for now?
Maybe.
What I would like to see is Elektra being re-introduced in Daredevil Season 2 with The Hand as the Kingpin tries to scheme his way out of prison.
I think that would be a cool way bringing in a fresh villain for Daredevil to battle against.
