That’s right, Martin Freeman’s character in Captain America Civil War has finally been revealed, but who the hell is it?
Find out right here.
Back in July, I discussed Martin Freeman’s role in Captain America Civil War in detail after the actor revealed more about the character. Whilst the actor was careful not to reveal the name of his character, I had guessed that it would be Henry Gyrich.
Turns out I was wrong.
Martin Freeman will actually be portraying a character called Everett Ross.
For those wondering precisely who Everett Ross is, he was a character created by writer Christopher Priest and first appeared in comic book format in Ka-Zar Vol. 4, #17.
According to Priest, the character was based on Chandler Bing from the hit TV show Friends. Ross’ role in the comic books was that of a U.S. state employee who was assigned to foreign diplomats. He was assigned to the King of Wakanda, T’Challa AKA The Black Panther and naturally, adventures ensued.
Given the introduction of The Black Panther in the Marvel universe starting with Captain America, it can come as no surprise that Marvel elected to use this character instead of the more established Henry Gyrich. The question whether Mavrel will use him in much the same role in the movie universe as they did in the comic book universe is another matter entirely.
According to the interview conducted by Empire magazine in which Freeman revealed his character name, Ross will be a “…part of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre.”
