Despite the questionable success of Batman vs Superman (which I think was a good movie, they just tried to put too much in there), people are starting to get hyped about the Ben Affleck Batman solo movie.
So much so that a rather awesome rumour has surfaced: the new movie is scheduled to be set in Arkham.
I guess the first angle to look at this from, is that of the Arkham Asylum video game. There were very distinct signs during Batman vs Superman that Affleck’s version of the Dark Knight drew heavily from the game, in looks and styles and also fighting style.
The scene where Batman enters the warehouse in search of Superman’s mother and takes down the criminals came directly from Arkham Asylum. I mean some of those fighting styles were identical.
I think that was the first thing that drew me to Affleck’s Batman, if I’m honest.
So where am I going with this? Well, since they drew a little from the Arkham Asylum game for other things, maybe the Batman solo movie will draw the plot from there.
of course the Arkham Asylum plot would be far too convoluted to be adapted scene for scene to the big screen, bit the fundamentals are there to make a fantastic story for a movie.
If you’re unfamiliar with the plot, read all about it on the Arkham Asylum wiki page right here.
I think it is. The story was fantastic and if Affleck and Geoff Johns are shaping their script on a watered down version of the plot, then I’m taking that as a good sign.
I’ve already decided that I like Affleck’s Batman and if he chooses to take the character in the Arkham Asylum direction, then I think that’s a good move personally. It’s fresh, it’s never been done in a Batman movie before.
I can just imagine having essences of Dredd in the setting, with the feel of a horror movie throughout. The movie starts and end in Arkham, with no story happening outside of the location (except for the odd conversation with Alfred) over the BatCom.
