Ant-Man news ahoy! another Marvel superhero has been confirmed to play a part in the upcoming Ant-Man movie and it’s exactly who you think it is (I hope).
Marvel’s President of Studio Kevin Feige has been starting off Ant-Man’s promotional rounds and when talking with MTV yesterday confirmed that a major player WILL be a part of the movie.
Who will that hero be? Janet Van Dyne AKA The Wasp. But maybe not in the way you might expect.
What the hell do I mean by that? Well, for a start her name isn’t listed anywhere on the IMDB cast list which I grant you doesn’t mean an awful lot, but add to the fact that the co-lead in the movie – Evangeline Lilly – is called Hope Van Dyne in the movie a better picture might be painted of what might be happening.
Now let me tell you what Feige said in his interview. Regarding Hope van Dyne he said:
“She factors in a number of spoiler-ish ways”
Interesting. Now what about Janet van Dyne AKA The Wasp?
“But we will see Janet van Dyne in action in this film, and sort of what happened to her.”
Okay, so here’s what I think’s happening. Judging by the fact that Feige used the past-tense to describe The Wasp, I would hazard a guess that Janet van Dyne is no longer active as The Wasp. Considering Hank Pym is already an elderly man in the movie, it’s not all bad of an assumption.
But how will we see her in action then? Well, Peggy Carter and Howard Stark are also listed to play a part in the movie – flashback sequence anyone? I believe they’ll be portraying Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne as heroes of the past and this movie will all be about passing on the baton.
So what does that entail for Hope van Dyne AKA Evangeline Lilly? I think it’s pretty obvious at this point where I’m getting with this: by the end of the movie, Hope van Dyne will be the new Wasp. The baton will be passed down to her.
