No thanks, I'm good.As most will already know, Marvel will be doing a second Civil War event at some point this spring (most likely to coincide with the Captain America: Civil War movie), but yesterday a NY Post reporter revealed something quite interesting regarding the story.
A major hero will die.
Who will it be?
The information, from the reporter Ethan Sacks, was posted online this past Sunday in the form of a New York Post article, in which the reported states that Marvel gave him access to one of their writing summits regarding the event. He was also there for the debate about which of the heroes was going to buy it.
My first thought regarding the Civil War 2 event was: why? Is it needed? What’s the point? But the event comes at a very opportune time for Marvel. After all, Captain America: Civil War will be hitting the cinema this May, which also coincides with the 10 year anniversary (man, I feel old) of the original event (which, if my math is right, took place back in 200).
It seems like just yesterday.
ANYWAY, according to a synopsis provided to Sacks by Marvel:
“A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.”
As you can see from the image at the start of the post, some of the players have already chosen sides, with Star-Lord and Captain America siding with Iron man and She-Hulk and Spider-Man siding with Captain Marvel.
Interesting teams and I suspect they’ll be getting even more interesting and time marches on.
So what about the hero who’s going to die? How do they fit in? The hero who dies will the event that ignites Civil War 2. Pretty strong hook, if they have a decent name dying and they stay dead.
Sacks states that the name’s discussed including Spider-Man (didn’t he die once already?) and Johnny Storm (he’s definitely died and then came back to life again), but in the end Bendis chose his man (or woman), but who?
I suspect it could be Steve Rogers (Again? He isn’t dead again already is he? I can’t keep up) as both Iron Man and Captain Marvel have a strong connection to the character but at this point it’s purely guess work.
Who do you think it could be?
