No thanks, I'm good.Yesterday, Suicide Squad director David Ayer did something awesome – he posted a picture on his official Twitter account providing a behind-the-scenes look at the cast after the first day of cast reading.
And it’s awesome.
So…wanna see the piture? Check it out:
Okay, so let me break it down for ya:
The picture revealed three new guy’s who we weren’t expecting to see and god only knows who they’ll be playing at this point.
Firstly, the picture does not include EVERYONE. The most notable absences are Jared Leto, who will be portraying The Joker, who is rumoured to be portraying King Shark and Scott Eastwood. The latter two do not have large roles within the picture, so my question is: what does that mean for Leto’s Joker?
Since the news of The Joker being in the movie was announced, a lot of fans had mixed feelings.
On the one hand, we get another version of the Joker and to be honest, I believe Leto has the acting chops to get the job done. Whether he’ll be as successful as Heath Ledger in bringing the character alive, I have no idea. But I, for one, am glad to have him on board.
On the other hand, The Joker doesn’t fit in well with the Suicide Squad dynamic. He’s not a team player on any level. He’s a force of nature who’s too crazy to be forced to do anything.
But maybe that’s the rub of it. Maybe that’s why he isn’t featured in the first cast read through with the other bit-part players too
What am I getting at? Maybe The Joker isn’t a big part of the movie after all. Maybe the Joker is only being introduced to us in this movie to set up for future movies? The upcoming Batman Vs Superman or the Justice League movies spring to mind. His only tie to the movie could be his “main squeeze” Harley Quinn. All of which would make sense and fit in with Comic Book storylines.
But maybe I’m reading too much into it. Maybe Leto is just a busy man who couldn’t make the casting read through on that particular day. Maybe the story weaves The Joker character seamlessly into the story in such a way that will make sense for both the film and the character.
In either case, I’m eagerly awaiting this movie and I can’t wait to see how they play it.
For those of you unaware of what the Suicide Squad movie is about, the following plot from IMDB covers everything you need to know succinctly:
A secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency.
Just to give you a little background on how the Suicide Squad has previously played out in the comic books and on TV:
Amanda Waller is the ball-breaking government agent who is the brains behind the Black Op’s outfit and typically, fits the villains with remote controlled explosives which are usually surgically installed within the villains brain.
Rick Flagg is a government agent who leads the team and has the difficult job of controlling the sociopaths he has under his care.
The rest of them are the villains that must work for their freedom and without giving too many spoilers away: don’t expect them all to survive.
