No thanks, I'm good.Recently, Hugh Jackman has been delighting even the hardened comic book geeks out there by openly and publicly stating that he wants to play Wolverine “until he dies”.
Now he’s gone a step further.
Comic book movie crossovers have been this geek’s wet dream since superhero movies began to get traction in Hollywood and now we’re in the ‘Golden Age’ of the comic book movie, such creams are stepping ever closer into becoming reality.
Consider this, not only have we already had a major crossover in just getting a Marvel Avengers movie done, now we’re pushing the barriers. A second Avengers movie is imminent, with a third planned and raring to go.
DC have stepped up their character crossovers game, by establishing the new universe with Zach Snyder’s 2013 Man of Steel and then promptly announcing the sequel will contain more DC characters. Ben Affleck was recruited to portray a brand new Batman, Gal Gadot was to play Wonder Woman, Jason Mamoa to play Aquaman and Ray Fisher signed on to play Cyborg. This is scheduled to lead into a series of Justice League movies – something fans have been wishing for ever since caped crusaders ventured onto the Big Screens.
Even more recently, Marvel and Sony managed to overcome their character ownership troubles to forge an alliance to bring Spider-Man into the mix, with the idea of placing him into Captain Amnerica 3’s Civil War story line.
And this isn’t even mentioning the crossover between the old X-Men movie universe and the new one as seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
If THAT can happen, what about a X-Men/Avengers crossover? Forget for a second if you will that the latest X-Men and Avengers movies both have the Quicksilver character with entirely different backgrounds (The Avengers had to steer away from the whole ‘Mutant’ background, as Sony have those rights locked down), could a crossover be possible? Is this something fans would want?
YES and YES.
If they’re planning a Civil War movie, why not be REALLY ambitious? What about the House of M?
An interesting thought and it seems such notions aren’t only being considered by us fanboys.
The other day, Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman was chatting to Yahoo and the question of the X-Men/Avengers crossover was brought up. His response was more positive than you might think.
“Two years ago I’d have said you’d be a real optimist to think it’s ever happen”, the beefed-up Australian monster said. “But weirdly now, I just think it maybe could. I think there is the possibility that it will happen”.
Let’s hope that Jackman’s instincts are right. Let’s hope his recent proclamation of portraying Wolverine “until he dies” and this are NOT a coincidence.
