‘Secret Wars’ is Marvel’s much-hyped big comic event of the year and today it has been revealed that the launch will happen online on 20th January.
The event will center around popular New York comic book chain (and Marvel’s partner in it’s digital service) Midtown Town Comics and will feature editor-in-chief Axel Alonso and SVP, executive editor Tom Brevoort.
Marvel have promised that the Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic Secret Wars won’t just be any ordinary ‘Big Event’ comic book series, promising the story will “go beyond traditional scope of the company’s comic book superhero epics, with Marvel teasing a synergistic approach that will include tie-ins in consumer products and digital releases throughout the story’s run”. This is where Alonso and Brevoort come in.
Whilst the details of ‘Secret Wars’ is being kept tightly under wraps, the official announcement promises “the coming of a new Battleworld and…the first details of the strange, patchwork realm playing host to countless separate realities,” and “the first earth-shattering revelations that will have everyone talking.” In addition to this, Marvel revealed a map graphic of the new Battleworld on their site (see below).
The comic itself is scheduled to be released May this year and the live stream will be available on Marvel’s website on 20th January.
