No thanks, I'm good. Will Deadpool cameo in Logan?
A couple of days back, a pretty spectacular rumour has been circulating through the interwebs: Deadpool will make an appearance in the forthcoming Logan movie.
It makes perfect sense if you think about it, but don’t think about it too much. The odds of Ryan Reynolds reprising Deadpool in Logan aren’t good.
The story originated from The Wrap, who have since retracted their story and filled the post with backtracking statements from the Logan director and Logan actor himself.
I guess the Wrap got some iffy information, as a number of people involved were quick to dismiss the rumours.
It went down like this:
Sadly, not true. Prisoner 24601 is on a solo mission. https://t.co/5czBmMRfY1

Gracias, R. From your fan. J https://t.co/S9Do9eCXZP

What they said …. https://t.co/GmOoWbddf2
— Hugh Jackman (@RealHughJackman) December 28, 2016
In response to Jackman’s tweet, a fan thought he’d sucessfully read between the lines and set off a pretty convincing conversation with James Mangold:
@Telsion @RealHughJackman @VancityReynolds Not in movie. Not in credits. Not in main titles. Not in a Box. Not with a Fox. Give it up.

Mangold later took to releasing his own definitive tweet for his own followers:
"@TheWrap has not reported Deadpool & Logan would appear side-by-side." Cause Deadpool ain't in the film, pal. Keep backtracking.#fakenews

At first glance at this, I was convinced that everyone involved were a little too quick to deny the rumours.
Usually, this is the first sign of that rumour being very definitely true (Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan anyone???), but sheer venom in James Mangold’s denial tweets suggest to me that on this occasion they’re telling the truth.
Or are they just completely pissed off the information was leaked in someway?
Honestly? I kinda doubt it. With all the good humour Hugh Jackman took the Deadpool hi-jinks involving his Wolverine character and the use of his face (see the image above), I kinda think Jackman wanted to separate this movie from the Deadpool movie. This will be his last hurrah portraying the character after all.
However, from a Fox point of view a Deadpool cameo wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. It would guarantee a couple of million more (at least) at the box office and keep Deadpool in everyone’s minds leading up to the Deadpool sequel.
Logan will be released on the 3rd March for both the US and UK.
