I need you to brace yourselves guys, okay?

I have some truly awesome news.

This past weekend, animated Batman vocial talent and legends – Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy – hinted that two more iconic Batman stories may be getting the DC animated movie treatment.

Which one’s? Epic ones.

Iconic Batman Stories

Firstly, a bit disclosure: I am a major DC animated movie fan. I LOVE them – probably even more than the real-action movies.

And I don’t think that’s going change any time soon.

I’ve watched and have copies of them all. There’s only one term I can think of applicable for this: major geekage.

ANYWAY.

Last weekend, Toronto hosted Canada’s 2016 Fan Expo. At that event, Hamill and Conroy reunited again for what appears to be a totally awesome Q&A panel. It was during this panel that they made fans heads explode by heavily hinting at (basically telling them) which DC animated movies we can expect next.

It started when one fan asked the rather loaded question, “Are you guys done voicing The Joker and Batman?”

It was a reasonable question, given that Mark Hamill has previously stated that he’d retired his voice from the role as it was too much of a strain.

Every fan in the room’s hearts stopped. Breathing was set to a minimum. Everyone wanted to hear the answer.

The response came back as ‘no’ and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Some people threw their hats in the air and started hugging each other (probably).

When the fan-fair had calmed, the follow up question of “what projects would you like to work on next?” was broached.

And this is where the magic happened guys.

Kevin Conroy cooly turned to his partner in crime (or more accurately, arch-enemy given their roles in the DC animated movie universe) and teased, “What do you think about doing Hush?”

At this point, the first of the heads started to explode. Those were the easy marks. What came next finished off the rest.

Hamill let out that infamous grin of his and counter-teased with, “What do you think about doing A Death In The Family?”

K-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

During the extensive clean-up afterwards, it was said that Geek brain matter covered literally every surface in the convention center.

Hamill and Conroy charged the convention $42,325 (US) for dry cleaning expenses (probably).

What is the Batman: Hush storyline?

Hush was a Batman story that ran from 2002-2003 and had a powerful creative team behind it; Jeph Loeb scripted it, Jim Lee drew in and Scott Williams inked it. Needless to say, it was a beautiful book.

The story was great too.

How could it not be? A villain works out Bruce’s secret identity and an old friend comes back into his life to exploit it. Also, a good number of Batman villains and allies are used throughout the plot, which makes for blistering pace. If you blink you’ll miss it.

What is A Death in the Family storyline?

A Death in the Family is arguable one of the most iconic Batman stories out there. It’s the story in which Jason Todd, the second Robin after Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing is brutally murdered by The Joker.

So as you can imagine, seeing an animated version of this storyline would be absolutely epic.

How likely is this to happen?

Honestly, I think the chances of these two animated movies happening is highly likely for a couple of reasons:

1) The link to A Death in the Family is prominently display in the Batman vs Superman movie. The Robin suit with The Joker’s scrawl all across it. It was picked up early on in trailers by eagle-eyed fans and I suspect DC will want to capitalize on that.

2) In Hush, the death (and resurrection) of Jason Todd is quite prominent. Bruce is teased with Lazarus Pit evidence and a desecrated grave that would suggest Batman’s Rogues have done something with Todd. Then, he’s attacked by someone who appears to be Jason Todd.

This could connect the two animated movies. Release A Death in the Family first, then Hush shortly afterwards for greater impact. Interesting idea.

What do you guys think? What other iconic Batman stories do you think the DC animated movies should cover next?
