The Suicide Squad movie is scheduled to undergo reshoots in order to make the movie have a more comedic tone and the internet is going nuts…but should they?
I’ve written about it in the past, but the Deadpool changed the way Hollywood studio’s thought about comic book movies and r-rated movies. Before, they considered the combination unprofitable and refused the notion. Now, they’re all clamoring to try and replicate the formula.
But is this the case for Suicide Squad?
The news comes from BirthMovieDeaths, who say their source says the reshoots are to inject a bit of fun into the movie. According to them, “Every joke in the movie is in that trailer” and obviously that wasn’t acceptable.
On the face of it, you might be thinking that this is going to be done because Deadpool had tonnes of humour in it and therefore they wanted to replicate that. I’m a little bit of it is that, but apparently the reshoots are down to the “enormous positive response to the trailer” more than anything else.
That’s as good as reason as any. They have the story set, they’ve realised that the fans are reacting to the humour and now they’re trying to inject a little more into the movie. I just hope they do it sensibly and don’t try to shoe-horn anything in.
I suppose some may also be wondering whether the reshoots mean that the movie is going to be terrible. There’s a notion that adding material onto a once-finished product is generally frowned upon and leaves the impression that the project is a complete mess. Sure, there are few examples of that lying around, but I’d wager the majority of blockbusters these do this. Deadpool definitely did.
At the moment, I’m going to remain positive about the movie. I think it’s still going to work and may still outshine Batman vs Superman…at least with the critics! What do you think?
