Two X-Men TV Shows ARE Happening

X-Men TV Show is Happening | Legion

Today comes the news that Marvel and Fox have agreed a deal to develop two TV shows set in the world of the X-Men.

Yeah, you read that right. Two X-Men TV Shows ARE Happening baby! Yeah!

Both shows will be produced by movie franchise director Bryan Singer as well as Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory and will be called “Legion” and “Hellfire” respectively.

Legion

“Legion” will be based on the infamour X-Men Legion character, David Haller, the son of Professor Xavier and have been granted a pilot order from FX.

As Deadline have it:

“Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.”

I think this is a strange choice of character base a show on – at least, a FIRST X-Men based TV show. Don’t get me wrong, the character is quite important to a number of X-Men storyline’s, but Legion is not a banner character to lead a franchise onto TV. I mean, Marvel have Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist looking to dominate TV, DC have Arrow and The Flash and Fox have Legion. It doesn’t sit right.

Am I alone on this?

That said, the write up of the plot does sound pretty good and I think it will at least be worth a try. Also, the show is scheduled to be written by Noah Hawley, the man who adapted Fargo for TV so my interest levels in the show are certainly peaked. I suspect this show will be a nice surprise for everyone.

“Legion is just the sort of ambitious story that Noah excels at,” FX’s Nick Grad said. “His adaption of Fargo for television was one of the most acclaimed television events in recent memory. It’s also an honor to partner with Marvel on Legion and to enlist such an accomplished team of Executive Producers to create this pilot.”

Hellfire

“Hellfire” will be set in the late 1960’s and will focus on the infamous mutant Hellfire Club and I hope it will be as awesome as it is/was in the comic books.

According to Deadline the show “follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as “The Hellfire Club” – to take over the world.”

Sounds fairly awesome to me, I just wonder how they’re going to do it AND whether they’ll have cool characters in the show. Don’t forget, we’ve seen two primary members of the Hellfire club already in X-Men: First Class. Kevin Bacon portrayed a VERY poor version of Sebastian Shaw (they totally messed up his power set and that pissed me off because Shaw was always one of my favourite Marvel villains) and of course Emma Frost portrayed by January Jones in the same movie.

If they don’t have these character in the show, I’ll be severely disappointed, but it’s a premise that I’ll give time of day and I look forward to seeing it on TV.
