We know for certain that Colin Firth will be back in the new Kingsman movie, but the obvious questions still remain: How? Why? And in what capacity?
In this post, I will examine all the plausible – or at least semi-plausible – ways in which the very talented Kingsman writers could potentially bring Firth’s Harry Hart character back and I want you guys along for the ride.
Let’s go.
Before I delve into my crazy idea’s about how Colin Firth will return, I have a bit of a confession to make; I think I need to explain precisely why the Kingsman movie holds a special place in my heart.
You may think it’s because that I’m a comic book geek and a massive Mark Millar fan. Both of these points are 100% true, but they aren’t the real reason.
The truth is Kingsman is one of the only geek movie I went to Cinema see with my wife and she didn’t complain.
Amazing, right? Probably not for you guys – or other regular people – but for me this is huge.
To get some idea of how huge this is, check out my post about getting her to come watch Captain America: Civil War with me.
Go read it, you’ll feel my pain. Or at least feel sorry for me.
Kingsman was a different matter altogether. There was no ‘hard-sell’ involved at all. I just had to say “that bloke from Bridget Jones’ Diary’s in it” and she was more than eager to watch the movie with me.
And she loved it.
How could she not? Kingsman was an awesome movie, full of action, humour and intrigue.
When Kingsman 2 was announced, I desperately wanted to watch the movie. When it was revealed that Colin Firth would return in some form, I knew I would have no problem getting buy-in from my wife a second time.
I can’t wait, but I have to wonder: just how will Harry Hart return to the Kingsman fold?
I have my own idea’s.
1. The Flashback Scenario
I think the most obvious (and most likely) return for Harry would be through a single or series of flashback sequence(s) which relates to the latest threat facing the world.
Perhaps Harry has had previous dealings with the organisation in the past? Perhaps there is another link to Eggsy’s past or perhaps another link to his father? Either way this seems to me to be the most likely.
2. The Hologram Scenario
We know from the first movie, The Kingsman organisation has access to advanced technology and the use of holograms to celebrate the deceased members of the circle has already been introduced.
Maybe the next stage of this technology is to have a fully functional hologram, in which people can interact – a bit like the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager. This could mean Harry could still provide training and advice to Eggsy where needed.
Given what we learnt in the first movie, this scenario isn’t all that much of a stretch and I prefer to the flashback scenario.
3. The Clone Scenario
Again, the Kingsman organisation has access to advanced technology. Maybe cloning is part of that.
But that begs the question: if this indeed an option, why weren’t other, deceased, members of the organisation cloned and re-activated?
Perhaps it is only done in the most desperate of times and perhaps the latest Kingsman threat and Harry’s knowledge of it qualifies for such an activation?
Possible, but I can’t see it happening.
4. The Twin Scenario
Harry has a long lost twin brother, which the Kingsman organisation finds and uses to their advantage.
Perhaps the current threat demands Harry’s involvement in some way and as a result, the Kingsman organisation draft in the lost twin to help them.
This would, actually, bring in a brilliant contrast as it would now fall to Eggsy to train him.
Again, not the likeliest of scenario’s. Next.
5. The Complete Swerve Scenario
This is my favourite.
What if Harry didn’t actually die? What if it was a giant swerve to fool everyone?
What if Harry had a previously unseen technological device which protected him from the head shot and made him appear dead? What if he actually DID get shot, but the Kingsman organisation has the technology to save him?
Total swerve or what?
Let’s take it to the next level.
What if he wasn’t dead for whatever reason, but couldn’t join Eggsy and the gang in taking down Valentine’s nefarious plan? What if he had to go and deal with an even more perilous threat and Kingsman 2 catches the rest of the team up on this?
That would be rather cool, right?
How would you like to see them bring Harry Hart back to the fold for Kingsman 2?
